Invisible
Ecologies
Ecosystems data visualization
Invisible Ecologies is a project that tells the story of the ecosystem as a living subject, starting with rivers. The anthropocentric gaze gives way to a point of view in which the river has its own history, memory and behavior. The river tells its own story through data.
The data comes from public databases and long-term scientific archives and takes shape through collaboration with public bodies in the field: hydrological measurements, historical series, ecological and biological indicators. Each series becomes visual behavior, with the density, speed, turbulence and color of generative systems that make the rhythms and transformations of the ecosystem perceptible.
The project unfolds as a series of immersive installations dedicated to the Arno, the Tiber, the air and microorganisms. Each chapter brings the audience into an environment where science becomes sensory experience and invites listening, attention and responsibility toward ecosystems.

01 / 05My research in data visualization starts from a need: to bring science, data and history closer to an audience that usually keeps its distance from them. I work with scientific and historical data, archives, measurements and public datasets, process them and turn them into interactive digital visualizations. Data becomes an engaging material and interaction turns learning into discovery: whoever explores a visualization follows their own paths, asks questions and finds connections. Each project is an environment to move through, between motion, color and scale, designed for people who come from outside the field and for those who work in it every day. The goal is to bring the complexity of social, environmental and historical themes into a clear, stimulating and accessible experience.
MEDIAMORPHOSIS — Vol. 1
An interactive installation on the ties between science, discovery and power in nineteenth-century British imperial expansion.
Go to the project →COMMON GROUND
An atlas of distant communities facing the same crises, from climate disasters to depopulation.
Go to the project →Climate Consequence Map
A map that follows climate change from global physical forces down to daily life: food, housing, health, work.
Go to the project →Energy observatory
The Italian energy system read as an ancient solar observatory: a circle of monoliths, one for each source, facing a common core.
Go to the project →Extinction Atlas
An atlas of threatened and extinct species, held in a world map, a globe and an archive of cards: habitats, threats, conservation status.

Tommaso Cherubini (Italy, 1995) is a new media artist working at the intersection of generative artificial intelligence, data processing, immersive environments, and multimedia installation. His practice explores the translation of historical archives and datasets into layered visual experiences, shaping fluid narratives that engage with memory, time, and landscape.
